Brian Tsuchiya

Brian, our founder started his entrepreneurial journey 18 years ago and has since launched ten startups. Startup Guru is the culmination of this extraordinary journey. Our foundation is built upon the experiences of one entrepreneur’s relentless quest to find a process to create more certainty of success in the business building process.

Brian started when he was 12 years old running the neighborhood paper route. At this time of his life, he had swim practice at 5AM, then school and after school had his paper route, swim practice that evening, dinner and homework and then worked in time for friends and family. Brian has always been a hard worker. Startup Guru is the culmination of this extraordinary journey.

He has openly shared for the first 40 years of his life he primarily served himself and lived a life without purpose.  He has always had an entrepreneurial spirit however he did not fully express this until he started his first real business at 27 years old.  For the next 15 years he launched a number of businesses, four which generated sales in excess of $1M annually and yet he had lots of lessons to learn about his patterns and himself. Not one of these highly successful startups provided him with any financial return. As soon as the businesses were successful and ready to take the next step, Brian’s reoccurring pattern of self-sabotage affected every venture.

Those 15 years were filled with struggle around balance, insecurity, blocked creativity and poor health. Then in June of 2006 he read a book that would change his life forever. The book was “The Life You Were Born to Live” by Dan Millman. With a new understanding of his life and his patterns he embarked on a journey that connected his life purpose with his entrepreneurial career.  Through this work he understood his patterns and defined his life in a way that revealed his purpose.  Forged in him was the way of the entrepreneur.

On his 43rd birthday he created and launched Startup Guru™ using the FoundersQuest™ business building process to create his own business.  His direct experiences with dreaming, creating, building, launching and running nine businesses became the foundation for what we teach. In addition he learned valuables lessons by working with and networking with dozens of other entrepreneurs.

Brian is a single dad and co-parents two precious little boys.  He spends much of his free time on personal development and exploration.  He enjoys physical training, meditation and living consciously.  Now he lives a balanced life and finds many ways to creatively express himself. His formal education is a B.S. degree in Marketing from the University of Tennessee where he was also an All-American swimmer.

Inspirational Quote:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Our Deepest Fear by Marianne Williamson A Return to Love
